Brands Hatch

GE2 Team collecting at Brands Hatch, Kent
24-25th April 2011

The GE2 Team continued their busy Easter weekend the Sunday morning following our appearance at Millwall FC. Yes, it was Easter Sunday! We were going to be attending for the first round of the British Super Bikes at Brands Hatch in Kent.

It was an early start as we had to be at Brands Hatch well before the public were let in. We were going to be on the Laguna Motorcycle's stand which was immediatley adjacent to the pit straight, so we had a good view.

We worked alongside Mick and his team from Laguna's, to set up a good display with the Steve McQ bike in such a position that people would come onto the stand and look around.

The team changed again with Spud, Smudge, Pud, Muddy and myself. Dog came later and we were helped by Smudge's friend, Fat Joe. Thanks for stepping in to help Joe!

Muddy and I did what we do best - stand around on the service road with a bucket in our hand and speak to anyone who seemed that they would be interested. We met lots of really nice people. Spud was on the stand ready to deal with specifics and use his expertise. Pud was selling goods on our able whilst Smudge spent time meeting trade stands looking for sponsorship. Practice day went very well and the times looked relaly good. Some racng went on in the afternoon with yet more excitment for those of us who like bike racing. It had also been very hot throughout the day, so we were rather tired at the end.

Easter Monday was raceday and we had to be on the stand before 7am. We were there for 6.45 but it was a little on the cold side to star with, but boy, did it warm up later!

There were many more people at Brands on raceday and we were busy on the stand - the collecting buckets getting heavy. I am always pleasantly surprised as to how people are so generous for the charities were are collecting for. People were putting in notes as well as coins, some with personal reasons for supporting us and others have just been touched by the plight of our service personnel.

We boys were also very lucky as Laguna's had obtained the services of the MCN Babes to hand out free copies of the motorcycle paper to the race goers. Well, I couldn't miss an opportunity could I? Thanks girls for posing with us.

We all had a great time and will be back later in the year. Thanks to eveyone at Laguna's for allowing us on the stand.
